CLIMATIC FEATURES OF RAIPUR DURING JANUARY
The following are general climatic features during the month of January for Raipur based on past data.
The climatic features of Raipur for this month are more or less similar to that of December. Sky is generally clear with calm to light surface winds blowing from North to Northwesterly. The normal mean temperature is 13.2°cel. similar to that of December. The mean maximum temperature is 27.5°cel. similar to that of December. Days are warm but comfortable.
The monthly total rainfall in this month is 6.7 mm. however there have been occasions when substantial amount of rainfall have been recorded in the month of January. sometimes thunderstorms with hail also occur.
On rare occasions Raipur may be affected by moderate cold wave when the minimum temperature is 5-6° cel. below normal or severe cold wave when it is 7°cel. or more below normal.
On the basis of available records Raipur experiences the following extreme values:-
1) The Lowest Minimum Temperature 5.0° C on 18th January 1908.
2) The Highest Monthly Rainfall 134.4 mm in the year 1943.
3) The Heaviest Rain fall in 24 hours was 55.4 mm on 22nd January 1921.
